£54m bid reported, as Bosz says he knows where Havertz’s future lies

Bayer Leverkusen head coach Peter Bosz says he knows exactly what the future holds for Kai Havertz amid talk of an opening bid from Chelsea for the midfielder.

Frank Lampard is understood to have identified the German international as his top summer target and Chelsea are widely believed to be working on a transfer for the 21-year-old.

And Bosz has revealed that he knows what the future holds for the midfielder, although he was not ready to disclose what he knows.

Bosz said: “I won’t tell, it’s his business.

“I talk to Kai a lot and try to sense what all this does to him – the daily transfer rumours, for example – and I notice again and again that Kai handles it very well.”

What’s clear is that any proposed move for Havertz will not happen while Bayer are still in the Europa League. And the Bundesliga side face Rangers at home this week 3-1 up ahead of the second leg, round of 16 clash.

Transfer pundit Ian McGarry though says Chelsea have made an opening offer of £45million plus £9million in add-ons.

Technical and performance advisor Petr Cech is said to be locked in talks with both Leverkusen and the player himself over a summer switch to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea confident

On Friday TEAMtalk revealed that Chelsea and Leverkusen were close to agreeing a structured transfer deal for Havertz.

The London club are ‘increasingly confident’ of signing the playmaker with talks at an advanced stage.

We were told that Chelsea and Leverkusen are close to agreeing a structured transfer deal. The deal will see a substantial up front payment and further payments spread over the course of his five-year contract.

The fine details of how those payments will be structured and what targets will need to be met have been among the major stumbling blocks in negotiations.

“Chelsea think they will get this one over the line, but it seems like Leverkusen don’t want anything announced until they have finished their Europa League campaign,” a source told TEAMtalk.
