Agent touts Liverpool forward to Barcelona as ‘ideal Luis Suarez replacement’

Barcelona have been granted the chance to sign Sadio Mane this summer, according to a cheeky report in Italy.

Ronald Koeman has succeeded Quique Setien at the Nou Camp, but appears to have walked into a club in disarray.

Koeman tried to stamp his mark on the club by showing Luis Suarez the door. But the real story has surrounded Lionel Messi, who has since asked to leave.  Talk of a move to Man City is gathering pace.

There also looks to be a further blow incoming to Koeman, with Philippe Coutinho ready to push for a move to a London giant.

The departures of long-serving regulars Messi and Suarez though will leave Barcelona with two massive holes to fill.

Truth be told there are very few (if any?!) players in the world who could step into the void.

However, according to TuttoMercatoWeb an agent or intermediary associated with Mane has sensed an opportunity. As such, the Italian outlet claims the Liverpool forward has been offered to Koeman as an ‘ideal successor for Suarez’.

TMW’s report is fairly vague, however. They don’t state who the offer has come from, nor whether Barcelona would be interested. One thing is for sure, any deal for Mane would not come cheap.

When Coutinho left Anfield for the Nou Camp, Liverpool ensured a clause to prevent Barca nabbing any more of their stars. As per the Daily Mirror, sporting director Michael Edwards negotiated an additional £89m premium for any future Liverpool player Barcelona are interested in signing.

Furthermore, Mane has always stated his happiness at Anfield.

Speaking back in October, the forward said: “I am very happy to be part of this great club and I enjoy it.

“Hopefully I stay here forever.

“I’ve been to some clubs around the world, but Liverpool is unique. It’s like a family. The mood is always incredible. But it’s normal that we’ve been together for four years and know each other. We are also together off the field and that is important for morale.”

While there’s every chance Koeman would welcome a chance to sign the forward, there appears just too many obstacles blocking a deal.

While replacing Suarez, and quite likely Messi, is going to be a huge task, it seems Koeman and Co will have to look elsewhere.

Liverpool defer on Wijnaldum deal

Liverpool are prepared to allow midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum to leave on a free transfer next summer.

The Holland international has emerged as key performer for Jurgen Klopp since arriving from Newcastle in 2016.

The 29-year-played played a major part in the Reds winning the Champions League in 2019 and a first Premier League title in 30 years last season.

However, Wijnaldum has now entered the final year of his Anfield contract. And the Telegraph claims there are no plans to offer him a new one.

Discussions over extending the midfielder’s deal have been ongoing for some time. But it would appear that Liverpool are now done talking.

Indeed, the Reds have seemingly already lined up his replacement in the form of Bayern Munich playmaker Thiago Alcantara.

The decision not to offer the Dutchman a new deal has seemingly opened the door for a Euro giant to make their move.
