Andy Cole reveals which two Man Utd stars make Grealish move pointless

Manchester United legend Andy Cole has revealed why he thinks his old club should not pay big money to sign Jack Grealish.

Cole admits that the Villa star is a “super player” but is not convinced that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to be breaking the bank in order to sign the England man.

Speculation continues that the 25-year-old could swap Villa Park for Old Trafford, either this month or more likely in the summer.

Grealish first sparked talk of interest from United 12 months ago, although the Red Devils ended up signing Bruno Fernandes instead.

The Portugal star has gone on to become United’s talisman. Grealish, however, remains a Red Devils option due to continued doubts over Paul Pogba’s future.

Another United legend, Rio Ferdinand, has already claimed that he would his old club to sign Grealish.

He told FIVE: “I don’t care if [Paul] Pogba goes or not, Grealish is my man. If I am a manager of a top team in England, a top three or four team, then I would not allow him to stay there, I would go and take him.”

Cole admits he can appreciate why Grealish is in high demand, thanks to six goals and a nine assists this season.

However, he has questioned whether the attacker would fit into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s current system.

The former United frontman told talkSPORT: “I think Grealish is a super player, I’m not going to sit here and say anything different, but I’m looking at Manchester United’s midfield at the moment, where would you play him?

“You look at Bruno [Fernandes], the performances he’s putting in; that’s the position [Grealish] likes to play in. If you put him off the left, [Marcus] Rashford plays there – so where would you play him again?

“I’m a mere mortal when it comes to things like this. I’m like everybody else from the outside looking in.”

Solskjaer rues Cavani absence

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that Manchester United missed Edinson Cavani’s ability to cause “havoc” in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup defeat.

United lost to Manchester City in the semi-finals after second-half goals from John Stones and Fernandinho. Indeed, City’s win came amid their long list of absentees due to coronavirus.

The Red Devils, meanwhile, started Anthony Martial up front with Cavani out due to his suspension.

The FA handed the Uruguayan a three-match ban on New Year’s Eve for a social media post in November.

In the 33-year-old’s absence, Martial had a few half-chances but rarely tested the City defence.

And Solskjaer said after the game (via Twitter): “Edinson could have caused some havoc in there with his movement and presence in the box.” Read more…
