Arsenal to hand Arteta January war chest amid huge dressing room rift

Arsenal chiefs will back manager Mikel Arteta in the January transfer window in a bid to ensure the club can steer clear of a relegation battle, according to a report.

The Gunners have made their worst start to a season in 46 years, sitting 15th in the Premier League. Indeed, they have only garnered 14 points from 14 matches.

As such, Arteta has fielded a plethora of questions over his future, despite only recently taking the Emirates job.

But while he has said that he does not fear the sack, he has admitted that he can understand the mounting pressure.

According to the Daily Mail, however, Arsenal plan to ‘unequivocally’ back Arteta in the upcoming window in a bid to turn the club’s fortunes around.

What’s more, their sole priority is to bring in a creative midfielder to help the team add goals. Arsenal have only scored four goals in their past eight league games, two of which have come from penalties.

Previous reports have claimed that RB Salzburg’s Dominic Szoboszlai is a target alongside Real Madrid’s Isco.

However, the latest report does not mention who the Gunners could opt to sign.

Indeed, Arsenal made a bid for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar in the summer window – a bid which the club’s president Jean Michel-Aulas laughed off as “timid”.

However, the Daily Mail‘s report adds that Arteta has deeper concerns within his squad, aside from their on-field struggles.

Mikel Arteta Arsenal TEAMtalk

The newspaper claims that Arteta is battling to stop ‘disquiet’ from a growing number of his players.

Indeed, while the ‘vast majority’ of the players back their manager, there are ‘fractions’ emerging among others.

These divisions pose further problems for Arteta, the report claims, and mean that the club’s crisis runs deeper than their poor run of results.

As a result, there are ‘fears’ from the club’s hierarchy that the club is sliding into a relegation battle.

After Tuesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final with Manchester City, there comes a crucial Christmas period. The Gunners welcome Chelsea to the Emirates on Boxing Day, before facing Brighton and West Brom.
