Arsenal told to stump up extra €10m as new asking price set for midfielder

Arsenal will have to stretch to €30m if they want to sign Danilo Pereira from Porto, according to reports in Portugal.

Mikel Arteta wants to sign reinforcements for his midfield this summer. There are doubts over the futures of most of the current occupants of that position at the Emirates Stadium.

Matteo Guendouzi in particular has fallen out of favour under Arteta. The Frenchman is now the subject of an offer from Villarreal, where he could reunite with Arteta’s predecessor Unai Emery.

Lucas Torreira is another midfielder Arsenal could sell, with several Italian clubs wanting to take him back to Serie A.

And the Gunners are also unsure if they will be able to keep Dani Ceballos after his loan spell from Real Madrid expired. Hence, Arteta is on the lookout for reinforcements for the position he once roamed himself.

Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid is his top target, but their high asking price may push him towards alternatives.

Atletico are holding out for Thomas’ full €50m release clause. With funds tight at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal may have to turn their attention elsewhere.

Porto captain Danilo recently emerged as an alternative. Arsenal were originally interested in him back when Arsene Wenger was in charge, but now they have a new opportunity to sign him.

Danilo has just two years left on his contract, and therefore Porto are willing to sell him for the right offer. Previous reports suggested they would ask for €20m.

However, those claims may be wide of the mark. According to O Jogo, Porto actually want €30m.

While that appears to be a blow to Arsenal, they still could get a cheap deal. The €30m valuation is half of Danilo’s release clause – and is still less than Atletico’s asking price for Partey.

DANILO STILL KEEN ON MOVE

What’s more, Danilo has previously admitted he would be keen to move to Arsenal.

Last month, he talked up current Gunners boss Arteta, claiming he would fit in well with his style of play.

“Arsenal play very good football and I think he is doing very well there,” Danilo said of Arteta.

“He is a Spanish coach, he is a bit similar to Portuguese coaches, they also want to play with the ball and improve with the ball, so I think he is a good coach.

“The style I think I can fit there, the way he plays also thinking on the ball, the team always has to be together I think it is a good way to play.

“Of course I like to be here in Porto to be here in my country, but I want to be in a better league like the Premier League.”
