Arsenal urged to re-sign former striker to dig Arteta out of big hole

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been urged to re-sign former Gunners striker Olivier Giroud from Chelsea during the January transfer window.

Arsene Wenger brought Giroud to the Premier League in 2012, with the France forward going on to escore over 100 goals for the club.

The 34-year-old quit The Emirates in January 2018 to join London rivals Chelsea, where he has netted a further 35 goals and won the Europa League.

The veteran hitman is currently enjoying a purple patch, scoring six goals in his last five appearances. However, he is still being linked with a Stamford Bridge exit on the new year.

When asked whether Arsenal should turn to Giroud to aid them with their goalscoring issues, Saha told Genting Bet, as cited by Metro: “Olivier Giroud could be a good option for Arsenal if they were to re-sign him.

“He is a top striker. He might not always give you the style that you want. But he is always questioned and stands up to answer them.

“Any side in England would love to have a Giroud on top form in their team.”

Former France international Saha shared a dressing room Arteta while they were both at Everton.

The Spaniard did well early in his Arsenal tenure but has seen his side struggle this season.

Arteta backed to come good

The Gunners currently sit 15th in the table ahead of Sunday’s clash with Burnley, with Saha adding: “Arteta has shown a lot of quality since he came into management at Arsenal.

“He has rightly been praised by pundits for his quality and style of play. But that all gets forgotten the second they lose some matches.

“Mikel is still a young manager, he will make mistakes but he has adapted to certain situations well already.

“You have to realise that Arteta has been dropped into a big club very soon – I was surprised – but he has done better than I expected in the way that he has dealt with it all.

“He has handled the pressure extremely well. You also have to remember that the club itself isn’t so great at the moment. It’s not just Arteta not doing a good job.

“He’s come into a club that hasn’t done well with transfers in recent years so he has work to do.”
