Arteta to revolutionise Arsenal transfer planning after Sanllehi exit

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will now have the final say on transfers alongside the club’s technical director Edu, according to a report.

The change comes after the departure of Raul Sanllehi from the Gunners. Arsenal announced their former head of football’s exit on Saturday, with managing director Vinai Venkatesham stepping in.

The Sunday Times claims the move will streamline Arsenal’s transfer processes and allow Arteta to make final decisions on players.

Arteta has reportedly gained such power after his arrival at The Emirates in December.

The Spanish boss was crucial in convincing youngster Bukayo Saka to a new deal, while he has also proved decisive in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s expected decision to sign a new deal.

Arteta has shown exciting promise in his first few months as Arsenal boss, guiding his side to another FA Cup triumph.

What’s more, the manager’s rebuild continued this week with the Gunners bringing in free agent winger Willian.

According to The Sunday Times report, Arteta wants two more players in ahead of the new Premier League season next month.

Further speculation has linked several players with a move, including Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

Indeed, the latest claims say Arsenal have proposed a swap deal involving Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.

Aouar featured for Lyon on Saturday as they knocked Manchester City out of the Champions League and he is now reportedly a Gunners target.

As part of the deal, controversial Frenchman Matteo Guendouzi will move the other way after his exile from Arteta’s plans.

The Sunday Times also claims that Sanllehi’s departure was one of several cost-cutting measures Arsenal have implemented.

Sanllehi reportedly earned more than £1million a year in his role, with a top lawyer appointed to oversee the wide-ranging changes.

Also part of the potential changes is an investigation into the deal to sign Nicolas Pepe. The winger moved to Arsenal last summer for £72million, with the fee spread over six years.
