Attacker unlikely to stay at Tottenham beyond end of season, report states

A revered Tottenham forward could be set to leave the club at the conclusion of the 2020/21 campaign, according to a report.

Gareth Bale wants a final season at parent club Real Madrid, thus handing him the opportunity to end his stay on a high, AS claims.

It adds that Welshman would be free to do so if boss Zinedine Zidane leaves the Bernabeu this summer.

But, if he decides to stay, then the attacker could still make a return albeit under ‘difficult’ circumstances.

Either way, the source states, the winger is likely to return to Spain and reunite with his employers.

Bale’s Real Madrid contract runs out in June 2022 and so he may want a last hurrah next campaign before being received of his duties.

Bale’s relationship with Zidane has been frosty during his two tenures which has eventually led to a Tottenham return.

However, he has not been afforded much game time under Jose Mourinho during his loan spell back in London.

He has played nine games for Spurs since his temporary switch, six of which have come in the Europa League.

He has scored twice, including one in the 2-1 Premier League win over Brighton in November.

The Cardiff-born man has played 251 games for Real Madrid since his transfer in 2013.

He has gone on to net 105 times and provide 68 assists for them in the last seven years.

During his now seven-year stay at Madrid, he has won four Champions Leagues, two La Liga titles and three European Super Cups.

New deal on the way for Spurs defender?

While Bale’s days at Spurs may be numbered, Serge Aurier’s stay could be elongated.

The defender was tipped to leave the club in the summer but his recent form could earn him a fresh new deal.

The Ivory Coast international is now Mourinho’s first choice right-back ahead of transfer window recruit Matt Doherty.

Aurier has 18 months left on his contract but Daniel Levy wants him to re-commit his future to the club.
