Bayer Leverkusen midfielder and Liverpool target Kai Havertz says he is open to move abroad

Bayern Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz has admitted he is open to a move abroad in the future amid reported interest from Liverpool.

Havertz has risen through the ranks at Leverkusen to become one of the most sought-after stars in Europe, having already scored 30 goals in 110 league appearances for the club at the age of just 20.

The midfielder, who joined the Leverkusen academy as an 11-year-old and worked his way up to the senior side, has been dubbed ‘the future of German football’ for his superb displays over the past four seasons.

Last campaign, he scored 17 league goals in 34 games and firmly put himself on the radar of clubs around Europe, with Jurgen Klopp said to be pushing Anfield chiefs to seal a move for his compatriot.

And the German star has now made his strongest indication yet that he could be on the move in the near future.

He told Sport Bild in his homeland: “Leverkusen are a great club, I feel good,.

“I have always said that. But, of course, I want to take the next step in my career at some point. That’s my ambition.

I’m ready to take a big step and I like challenges. For me, this also includes abroad. The coach is a very important person for me. It must be a good fit. You can see that with our coach, Peter Bosz.

Give COVID-19 the red card

The quicker we work together to stop coronavirus spreading, the sooner we can get back into the pubs, the gyms and stadiums and arenas to see live sport again…

STAY AT HOME. Only leave for the following purposes:

  • to shop for basic essentials – only when you really need to
  • to do one form of exercise a day – such as a run, walk or cycle, alone or with other people you live with
  • for any medical need – for example, to visit a pharmacy or deliver essential supplies to a vulnerable person
  • to travel to and from work – but only where this is absolutely necessary

The government has also issued further detail on what we can do during lockdown.

Everyone should do what they can to stop coronavirus spreading.

“For me, the sporting direction of the club is also reflected in the choice of coach.”

Despite Liverpool’s interest, Bayern Munich remain frontrunners to sign the Germany international who is valued in excess of £50million.
