Bielsa keen as source claims Leeds are chasing explosive Spain striker

Leeds are reported to have opened talks with Valencia over a deal for exciting Spain striker Rodrigo Moreno.

The Spanish side are going through something of a financial crisis at present. As such, they have been unable to pay their players, with many, understandably, not happy.

The situation has already seen captain Dani Parejo join Villarreal on a free transfer, much to their fans’ despair.

It’s also thought offers will be considered for much of the squad which is left. Only Jose Gaya is said to be exempt.

As such, trusted transfer source Gianluca Di Marzio claims Leeds have targeted a move for striker Rodrigo.

The 29-year-old Brazil born attacker has attracted attention from Barcelona at regular times throughout his career. He was also strongly linked with Tottenham two years back.

He has scored a total of 110 goals in 379 career appearances, including 59 in 220 games for Valencia. While not the most prolific, his hard-running style is said to appeal to Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds relied heavily on Patrick Bamford during their promotion to the Premier League and competition is much needed.

Di Marzio claims Rodrigo is very much of appeal to Bielsa and director of football Victor Orta is working on negotiations.

There has been little word on what sort of fee it would take to bring the 22-times capped Spain striker to England. However, a fee of €20m has been mooted in certain sections of the media.

Kinnear hopeful on Leeds signings

Asked whether Leeds fans should be optimistic about players arriving, chief executive Angus Kinnear is feeling relaxed.

“We know people want to come play for Leeds in the Premier League,” he added. “I don’t think we are going to have any challenge in attracting the right player.

“What we are finding is the market is moving more slowly than it perhaps would do normally.

“Although we are only a few weeks away from the start of the season in terms of the transfer market we are only a couple of weeks into it.

“I think that deals are going to take time. We’re not going to rush it. We are going to want to secure the right players. We’re confident of getting the three to four key areas we need.

“We are confident of bringing those people in in the window.”
