Bielsa told to forget Man Utd raid as Solskjaer offers winger key promise

Manchester United do not expect Daniel James to leave in any kind of deal before the transfer window closes, according to a report.

Previous reports have claimed Leeds are keeping tabs on the Wales winger’s situation ahead of a potential second raid.

The Whites almost had James signed in January 2019, before his move spectacularly collapsed.

According to the Daily Star Sunday, Leeds could make another move for the 22-year-old if United sign Jadon Sancho. The Red Devils are keen to bring in another top winger, which could affect James’ game time.

However, the Manchester Evening News claims otherwise; United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly promised James he will remain a key part of his plans this season.

Solskjaer is insistent that James will still receive adequate match minutes, even if the club add more firepower to their ranks.

The MEN says Leeds boss Bielsa still retains a strong admiration for James, but that a deal remains unlikely.

James enjoyed a solid start to his debut season at United last term but his impact then tailed off.

Indeed, he only made the bench in the final three Premier League games after playing 54 minutes in the five previous matches.

His lack of game time late in the campaign came after United found goals elsewhere in their front line. Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial all showed fantastic form after the coronavirus lockdown.

United looking to sell elsewhere

While James will remain part of United‘s plans for the upcoming season, Chris Smalling is one player who could leave.

The centre-back thoroughly enjoyed last season’s loan spell at Roma and wants to return to Italy.

And while the Red Devils are looking to strike a deal, they are standing firm on their valuation of the 30-year-old.

Roma head coach Paulo Fonseca, meanwhile, remains confident that his side can once again secure his services.
