Chelsea deal ‘in the coming days’ after Leverkusen soften Havertz stance

The make-up of Chelsea’s financial package to secure a deal for Kai Havertz has been detailed after the latest report claimed he would become a Blue ‘in the coming days’.

Frank Lampard’s side appear set to be the biggest player in the 2020 summer transfer window.

Deals for exciting forwards Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have already been completed. While defensive reinforcements – most notably Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell – have also been mooted.

But it is Chelsea’s ongoing pursuit of German ace Havertz that could cement their position as the window’s clear winners.

The 20-year-old has quickly developed into becoming one of Europe’s most promising attacking talents.

The Blues have been chasing his signature over the past few months, and recently got the greenlight from owner Roman Abramovich.

The issue of Leverkusen’s £80m-£90m valuation had thought to be a sticking point, with Chelsea reported to have had a lower offer rejected.

But now, according to FootballLondon, the two clubs are inching ever closer to meeting in the middle.

The outlet claim ‘Bayer Leverkusen are expected to come down slightly on their original asking price.’

Chelsea’s offer will not meet Leverkusen’s valuation in one go, but is expected to be sufficient after hitting the mark through add-ons.

Staff pushing Lampard towards transfer

Chelsea have asked Rennes about the availability of signing goalkeeper Edouard Mendy as competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga, according to a report.

Kepa is under pressure to prove his worth as the Blues’ no.1 between the sticks after an inconsistent season.

The Spaniard, along with Chelsea’s defence conceded 54 Premier League goals last term, the worst record in the top 10. Indeed, even before the campaign finished, reports linked boss Frank Lampard with bringing in a new stopper.

Recent speculation has linked several players – including Atletico Madrid’s £100million-plus-rated Jan Oblak – with a move to Stamford Bridge.

According to the Daily Mail, however, Chelsea are looking at cheaper alternatives.

As such, Lampard is keen to drive down the price of a new goalkeeper. He is reportedly considering a move for Mendy based off a recommendation from Chelsea’s goalkeeping coach, Christophe Lollichon.
