Thomas Tuchel is reportedly keen to bring Leeds striker Patrick Bamford back to Chelsea after his stellar form this season.
Bamford joined Chelsea from Nottingham Forest in January 2012 but failed to kick a ball for the Blues. The 27-year-old spent time on loan with several clubs.
He was sent to MK Dons, Derby County, Middlesbrough, Crystal Palace, Norwich City and Burnley. The former England Under-21 star then signed a permanent deal with Middlesbrough in January 2017.
He penned a four-and-a-half-year deal at the Riverside but Leeds came calling in July 2018. Having shown only sporadic goalscoring ability over the years, it was seen as gamble for the Whites.
However, Bamford has bagged 11 goals from 21 top-flight outings this term. That was after scoring 16 during the club’s promotion season of 2019-20.
The forward’s stock has risen considerably over the past few months. His goals have helped the Peacocks to 11th spot in the Premier League table. They look safe from relegation – always the first concern for a newly-promoted team.
And it seems as though the London giants may be interested in a reunion with their former player. According to Don Balon (via caughtoffside), Tuchel wants to strengthen up front and may turn to Bamford in the summer.
Signing Bamford would be seen as a gamble but one that could pay off if his upward curve continues.
Midfielder yet to show his best
While Bamford may have been a late bloomer, Mason Mount found stardom at a young age. The 22-year-old has already played 82 times for Chelsea and been capped 13 times by England.
While the forward was a favourite of Lampard’s, Tuchel benched him for his first game in charge. But it seems as though the new coach is also a fan and feels the best is yet to come.
“If you train with Mason, he gives 100 per cent every minute and this is the best level to grow,” he said. “It’s the best situation to start and the best situation to become a top, top player.
“He has everything needed to reach higher and higher levels. I don’t know where his limits are but right now we will push him and support him.”
