Chelsea star issues strong contract hint to Lampard after summer arrival

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva says that he already has plans to extend his contract with the Blues after his arrival in the summer.

Despite being the cheapest of Chelsea‘s marquee summer recruits – signing on a free transfer – the Brazilian has proved to be one of the most important.

Indeed, alongside new goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, he has stabilised a Chelsea defence criticised for leaking goals. The Blues have kept six clean sheets in their last 10 games, with Silva featuring in seven of those.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has previously hailed the 36-year-old’s “huge” influence on his team.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Brazil’s clash with Paraguay on Thursday, Silva revealed that the feeling is mutual. What’s more, he also said that he is keen to extend his Stamford Bridge association.

“I am very proud to be coached by someone who has been one of the best midfielders in the world and to have faced him as a player,” Silva said (via

“We exchange our ideas in the locker room and that’s a very good thing. He talks to me a lot and I try to help my best, on and off the pitch, in order to keep playing in the best possible way.

“I have learned in [a lot of different competitions] and I use it to help young players.

“This is my first experience in the Premier League. I hope to continue to play well and that my contract will be renewed.”

Silva signed a one-season deal after leaving Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. He has an option to extend those terms by another 12 months if both he and the club agree to do so.

Indeed, should Silva’s form continue, it is likely the Brazilian will get his wish.

Meanwhile, reports claim that Chelsea want to tie Silva’s fellow centre-back Kurt Zouma down to a new contract.

The Frenchman has equally impressed and the pair have formed a strong partnership at the back.

As such, Lampard reportedly feels Zouma is a “new leader” and wants his future secured.
