Euro Paper Talk: Chelsea turn to €60m alternative as Kai Havertz deal stalls; Real Madrid opt not to sell star to Arsenal

Chelsea have hit a stumbling block over Kai Havertz and will switch focus to a €60m plan B, while Arsenal’s hopes of signing a Real Madrid star have suffered a massive blow, according to Tuesday’s Euro Paper Talk.

Chelsea are ready to raid Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho after efforts to land Kai Havertz hit a snag.

The Blues have been working hard on a deal to bring Germany playmaker Havertz to Stamford Bridge.

However, they have so far been unable to agree on a fee with Bayer Leverkusen insisting he won’t leave on the cheap.

Bayer are said to value Havertz at €90m, while Chelsea’s opening bid is said to total €65m. And with the two parties seemingly no nearer a compromise, reports in Spain claim the Blues are making alternative arrangements.

As such, Don Balon claims Chelsea have been in contact with Barcelona over Coutinho.

The Blues were strongly linked with the on-loan Bayern Munich man earlier this year. However, they appeared to distance themselves from a potential deal as they looked towards Havertz instead.

But Coutinho’s two goals in the Champions League quarter-finals appear to have changed Chelsea’s stance. Barca remain desperate to offload the Brazilian and are willing to discuss his sale.

Now the Spanish outlet claims Chelsea have contacted the LaLiga giants with a €60m offer.

They hope the £54.2m bid will be accepted. If Frank Lampard can help Coutinho return to the form he showed at Liverpool, the Blues will feel they’re getting a bargain.

The saving will also free up funds to pursue the two other areas he wants to strengthen: central defence and left-back.
