Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd hopes fade as huge claims made over Jadon Sancho to Liverpool; Leeds eye 199-goal striker

Manchester United could miss out on Jadon Sancho with claims now made about a move to Liverpool, while Leeds are tracking a prolific striker in Spain, according to Wednesday’s Euro Paper Talk.

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Jadon Sancho are dwindling, according to reports in Germany.

United have submitted an initial bid for the England man, believed to be €75m – an offer Borussia Dortmund have snubbed.

As such, it’s reported BVB will not lower their €120m asking price for Sancho. If the price isn’t met, their stance is that Sancho stays.

As such, Kicker claims United have been set a deadline of August 10 to meet the asking price. Again, if they don’t, the deal will be off.

It’s reported that Dortmund are not in a hurry to offload the star. Even amid a global economic downturn, BVB are adamant there will be no discount.

All of this presents something of a problem for United.

Club chiefs believe they have agreed terms with the player, but Dortmund’s refusal not to be bullied may see the deal collapse.

Furthermore, Kicker makes the extraordinary claim that Sancho himself is having second thoughts about United.

They state the England man doubts the Red Devils’ immediate potential to win trophies. In addition, they suggest Sancho may actually prefer a move to Liverpool. It’s stated Sancho feels they are in a much better position to challenge for major honours.

Jurgen Klopp has admitted his admiration for Sancho before.

“A red jersey would look very good on Jadon Sancho,” the manager said at a BILD event. “But I don’t think such a transfer will take place this summer.

“He is a very interesting player. If he moved to Liverpool, I would be the most surprised of all.”

Furthermore, Liverpool are adamant they won’t spend big this summer. Both Klopp and club chairman Tom Werner have made it clear Liverpool will have limited finances this summer. A marquee signing, therefore, is not on the agenda.

With the window open until October 5, Dortmund may be hoping to spur United into action. On the other hand, Kicker’s claim about Liverpool has certainly added an interesting curveball into the mix.

Leeds have made Girona striker Cristhian Stuani a transfer target. The Uruguayan has scored a whopping 69 goals in 103 appearances for the side but has a €20m exit clause. He also boasts 199 career goals from 464 games. (90 mins)
