Guardiola demands Man City to sign Kompany-esque veteran leader

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reportedly asked the club to sign a thirty-three-year-old stalwart to fill the void left by Vincent Kompany.

The Spaniard, according to TojoFichajes, has set his sights on Juventus centre-half Leonardo Bonucci.

The source states Guardiola has always been an admirer of the giant veteran, who has 99 caps for Italy.

It adds that he would like to make him his club‘s first signing of summer 2021.

However, TojoFichajes says that Juventus are not willing to let him go with Bonucci contracted at the Serie A title-holders until 2024.

The former Inter Milan and AC Milan defender has been likened to the stature of ex-City captain Kompany.

Guardiola has struggled to replace the club legend since his departure in 2019 but Bonucci, like Kompany, is a seasoned winner.

He has won an incredible nine Series A titles with eight of those coming at current club Juventus.

Bonucci has played 420 games for the Italian outfit across his career, eight of which have come this season.

Aguero could make return on Tuesday

Guardiola has remained cautious about the return of Sergio Aguero, ahead of City’s game with West Brom on Tuesday evening.

The Argentine missed the Manchester derby due to gastroenteritis having featured in just five games so far this injury-plagued campaign.

However, the 32-year-old did train with the squad on Monday and could take to the field for a sixth time.

“Today (Monday, December 15) he was training but in the last two or three days he could not train so we will decide tomorrow,” Guardiola said.

Meanwhile, John Stones is set to be handed another start amid his current good form.

City currently lie ninth in the Premier League table having picked up 19 points in their first 11 matches.
