Inter set stall as Tottenham prepare fresh Milan Skriniar approach

Inter Milan have warned Tottenham they will not lower their asking price for Milan Skriniar amid reports of a fresh approach from Jose Mourinho’s side.

The Inter Milan centre-back has been Mourinho’s top centre-back target for the majority of the summer.

Initially, the two clubs were some way apart in their valuation of the Slovakia defender.

Inter value the 25-year-old at around £50million, while Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was only willing to part with £30m.

However, Spurs made their play and almost snatched the defender late in the window after making an improved bid.

As it went, the offer came too late in the window for Inter to accept. Indeed, they were left with no time to source and bring in a replacement.

However, hope springs eternal for Spurs and they were given fresh hope when Antonio Conte’s side were linked with a successor.

As per Tuttosport, the man they have in mind is Torino’s Armando Izzo. That’s amid claims a swap deal is set to be sanctioned.

But if Tottenham thought they could land Skriniar on the cheap, as a result, it seems they may have to think again.

As per Fabrizio Romano, Inter have warned Spurs that their €60m (£54.2m) asking price is ‘non-negotiable’.

The trusted transfer source states that there will be no room for negotiations. Conte appears under no pressure to sell the defender, despite him no longer being considered a first-team regular.

Furthermore, if Tottenham are serious about signing Skriniar, they will simply have to meet his asking price.

United repeatedly tried to sign the England attacker on the cheap by offering lower than Dortmund’s asking price.

However, with Dortmund adamant that the £108m fee had to be met, Sancho ended up staying.

Furthermore, United’s approach did not amuse Dortmund, who made their position perfectly clear.

The Bundesliga side imposed a August 10 deadline on the potential transfer of Sancho. Dortmund wanted the future of the 20-year-old resolved in time for the start of their pre-season training camp.

While Inter are yet to impose Tottenham a deadline over Skriniar, they are clearly in no hurry to sell the defender.

But with Conte hoping to further bolster his squad, the option to sell does remain a possibility.

However, he will only leave on Inter’s terms. Their stance now leaves Tottenham and Daniel Levy with a decision to make…
