Inter striker had clear message for Lampard after snubbing Chelsea move

Chelsea made a summer enquiry about Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez but the Argentine snubbed the proposal, according to a report.

The Blues added significantly to their attack in the recent transfer window; winger Hakim Ziyech arrived from Ajax while Timo Werner signed from RB Leipzig.

Indeed Chelsea brought in a total of six major signings, with their spending topping the £200million mark.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, however, Frank Lampard’s side also tried their hand at a deal for Martinez.

The 23-year-old scored 21 goals and assisted seven others in 49 games last season. That made him one of Europe’s most prolific strikers, a trait Chelsea reportedly picked up on.

However Martinez declined the Blues’ offer, insisting that he would only leave for Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Indeed speculation over several months touted Barca’s strong interest in the forward but a deal never materialised. In fact, his agent has insisted that there were no concrete proposals from the Spanish giants.

The latest report, though, does not make clear whether Chelsea’s enquiry came before or after they signed Werner.

In any case, Martinez has pressed on this term with fantastic form, scoring three goals in three Serie A games. Fellow strike partner Romelu Lukaku has also netted a trio of goals in the Italian top flight.

Werner has also shown promise, scoring his first Chelsea goal against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.

Chelsea monitoring Dybala’s situation

Meanwhile, TuttoMercatoWeb‘s report also claims that Chelsea are eyeing up a move for Paulo Dybala.

The Blues have a “concrete” idea to sign the Juventus attacker, who has endured mixed form of late.

Chelsea are also keeping a close watch on Dybala’s contractual situation. The 26-year-old has two years left on his deal, which Juve are trying to extend until 2025.
