Jorge Mendes ‘contacts Manchester United’ over James Rodriguez transfer from Real Madrid

Super-agent Jorge Mendes has reportedly contacted Manchester United officials over the possibility of signing James Rodriguez.

The Real Madrid playmaker looks set to leave the Spanish capital after falling out of favour with manager Zinedine Zidane.

He has started just four LaLiga games since returning from a two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich last summer.

Spanish newspaper Sport claim Rodriguez is ‘not liked’ by Zidane, who is looking to bring in midfield reinforcements.

Manchester United’s Paul Pogba and Ajax star Donny van de Beek have been linked with summer moves to the Bernabeu.

Another midfield arrival would push Rodriguez even further down the pecking order with Luka Modric, Isco and Toni Kroos currently ahead of him.

Rodriguez was heavily linked with a switch to Manchester United in 2017, but a deal fell through when the Premier League giants refused to meet Los Blancos’ £69million valuation.

Reports claimed he was offered in a swap deal with Pogba during the January transfer window, but the proposal was rejected by Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Now, with just one year left on his contract, it is understood Real Madrid will be willing to part ways with Rodriguez for around £34m

Rodriguez joined the 13-time European Cup winners from Monaco after starring in the 2014 World Cup with Colombia.

The 28-year-old scored six goals in five matches as his country reached the quarter-finals in Brazil.

But he has failed to hold down a regular starting place during Zidane’s two spells in charge at the Bernabeu.
