Koeman interest sparks Liverpool star into life as Liverpool exit plan made

Georginio Wijnaldum will put contract talks with Liverpool on hold and wait it out in the hope that Barcelona try to sign him, according to a report.

The midfielder has entered the final year of the Anfield deal, having become an unmissable part of Jurgen Klopp‘s team.

Indeed, the 29-year-old has backed up his workman-like attributes with crucial goals in games, including three in Champions League semi-final ties.

Reports on Wednesday claimed that new Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman wants to sign his fellow Dutchman. The pair have a strong relationship after working together for the Netherlands.

According to Sport (via Sport Witness), such interest has sparked Wijnaldum into life. The midfielder is now keen to put a stop to any talks with Anfield chiefs in the hope of reuniting with Koeman at Camp Nou.

Due to his age, Wijnaldum would be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona in January if his contractual situation did not change before then.

Sky Sports News adds, though, that contract talks between Liverpool and Wijnaldum are yet to start. What’s more, the latter source claims Barcelona are yet to make a firm approach for a deal.

Wijnaldum “loves” playing for Liverpool having won both the Champions League and Premier League, Sky Sports News adds.

The midfielder has become a central figure since moving to Anfield from Newcastle in 2016. Indeed, he was one of Klopp’s first signings as he begun his Liverpool rebuild.

The Dutchman showed excellent form under Koeman for the Netherlands in a more attacking role. He scored eight goals and assisted three others in his side’s qualifying campaign for the rescheduled Euro 2021 Championships.

Thiago-Bayern-Munich

The latest reports about Wijnaldum come amid speculation that Liverpool are keen on Thiago Alcantara.

The Bayern Munich midfielder, like Wijnaldum, is into the final year of his deal but he has refused new terms.

As such, it is likely he will move on this summer and previous reports have said the Spaniard’s £27million price tag is a stumbling block for the Reds.

However, further claims now say claim Klopp could have another issue with the deal.
