Lampard still not satisfied in goalkeeper hunt, amid telling Milan revelation

Chelsea are continuing to monitor the contractual situation of Gianluigi Donnarumma ahead of a potential swoop for the AC Milan goalkeeper, according to a report.

Blues boss Frank Lampard has addressed his distrust for Kepa Arrizabalaga by signing Edouard Mendy.

The Senegalese has made one top-flight appearance so far, completing an easy debut in the 4-0 rout of Crystal Palace.

Recent reports have claimed that Mendy’s arrival saw Chelsea back out of a late deal for Donnarumma.

According to reports in Spain (via Calciomercato), however, Lampard still holds a serious interest in the Italian.

In fact, Chelsea are the one club who want Donnarumma ‘more than the others’ still in the race.

The revelation comes amid a contractual stalemate between the 21-year-old and his boyhood club. Donnarumma’s current deal runs out next summer and the two parties are yet to agree an extension.

And while both sides want the Italy international to renew, Donnarumma’s salary expectations are proving tough. As he is one of the club’s most valued players, he reportedly wants to earn over £5.8million a season.

Milan appreciate that Donnarumma is an ‘exception to the rule’ as regards wage increases, but the club are yet to reach an agreement.

Despite Mendy’s only recent arrival, Lampard has already encountered problems with his new signing.

The 28-year-old picked up a thigh injury on international duty, with his manager hoping the issue is not serious.

But speaking in Friday’s press conference, Lampard did not say whether Kepa would take his place. The Spaniard’s form has dipped of late, with third-choice Willy Caballero often playing.

The Moroccan was Chelsea’s first summer signing but he suffered a knee injury in a pre-season game in August.

As such, he has had to watch on as the likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have settled into the team.
