Leeds ‘crash’ out of second striker deal after being shunted over exit fee

Leeds have decided against pursuing a move for Basel striker Arthur Cabral after the Swiss club changed their mind over his fee, according to a report.

Attack is a priority area for the Whites this summer as Marcelo Bielsa looks to find support for Patrick Bamford.

Leeds are soon likely to announce the signing of Rodrigo Moreno, after reaching a deal with Valencia earlier this week.

However, one report claimed Leeds chiefs have promised Bielsa two new attackers, with several other targets eyed up. Among them was Arthur, for whom Leeds submitted an offer of £14million.

Basel were allegedly willing to negotiate down from their €20million (£18million) asking price. However, UOL now claims Basel have changed tack and want their full valuation.

As such, the chances of Leeds landing Arthur have “crashed”, although several other issues also plagued the deal.

The report adds that Arthur would be unlikely to earn a Premier League work permit, which would instantly end any hopes of a move.

In any case, Arthur is reportedly keen on a move to the English top flight to try to extend his fantastic goal record.

The striker scored 18 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions last season, an average of close to a goal every two games.

Arthur, 22, began his career with Brazilian side Ceara before moving to Palmeiras in January last year.

From there, he moved to Europe with Basel last summer – initially on loan – before the Swiss side made the deal permanent.

LEEDS’ BEN WHITE CHASE ALMOST OVER

Meanwhile, defence is also an area Bielsa wants to improve ahead of next season.

The Whites boss’ top target was Brighton centre-back Ben White, who impressed on loan at Elland Road last season.

However, the latest report claims White will likely tie himself down to the south coast for at least another season.
