Leeds in pole position to land 22-goal Arsenal teenager for £3m

Leeds are leading the race to sign Arsenal Under-23s striker Sam Greenwood in a deal rising to £3million, according to a report.

The Athletic claims Leeds are keen to add more attacking mettle to their academy. One player they are keen to sign is Gunners youngster Greenwood.

The 18-year-old, born in Sunderland, moved to Arsenal’s Hale End academy in the summer of 2018. After spending two years at Under-18s level, he earned a promotion to the Under-23s in July.

Indeed, Arsenal handed him the step up in class after his form in the previous three seasons. Overall, he has scored 22 goals in his domestic career to date, including 19 strikes in 47 Under-18 Premier League matches.

What’s more, The Telegraph claims Leeds will eventually win the battle to sign sign Greenwood. The newspaper says the deal will start at £1.5million and rise to £3million with add-ons.

Greenwood also plays at Under-18 level for England. He has an impeccable record on the international stage, scoring 13 goals in 20 matches across the Under-16s, Under-17s and his current grading.

The Telegraph claims other sides are keen on Greenwood, adding that AC Milan and Manchester United have scouted him in the past.

However, it is Leeds who look likely to win the race for the player.

The Whites are also targeting first-team attacking reinforcements ahead of their return to the Premier League. As well as Stuttgart’s Nicolas Gonzales, Rodrigo Moreno is also allegedly a target.

Owner Andrea Radrizzani has promised investment as the club gears up for its first taste of top-flight football in 16 years.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa sees attack as an area of priority, given that Patrick Bamford needs support up top.

LEEDS IN MORENO TALKS

Reports in Spain claim Leeds and Valencia are in talks over a deal to take Moreno to West Yorkshire.

Sport claims that despite the 29-year-old proving an important feature for the LaLiga side, they are willing to cash in.
