Leeds look to have suffered a big blow to their hopes of signing Chelsea centre-back Fikayo Tomori on loan in the January transfer window.
Tomori had been looking to secure a temporary switch away from Stamford Bridge this month after struggling for game time.
However, a knee injury suffered by Andreas Christensen appears to have scuppered a move.
Injury-hit Leeds had been hoping to bring the 23-year-old to Elland Road, while Newcastle were also keen.
But with Chelsea just having Toni Rudiger as back-up to Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma, Tomori looks set to stay put.
Leeds are still expected to be in the market for a centre-back, however, with their two summer defensive signings, Robin Koch and Diego Llorente both sidelined.
Koch is out until March after succumbing to a knee problem at Chelsea. His substitute that day, Llorente, has not been seen in a Leeds shirt before or since.
Added to their problems, skipper Liam Cooper is also sidelined, while Gaetano Berardi remains a long-term absentee. It has left Leeds playing a right-back and a fifth-choice centre-half in defence, flanked by two midfielders, in recent games.
But it looks as if Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa will have to cast his net further to find some help, if Tomori does, indeed, remain in London.
Leeds face rivals for midfield target
Leeds United have serious rivals for midfielder Kouadio Kone, despite Toulouse increasing his price tag by almost 50%.
Scouts from the Whites have been checking on Kone, who has been impressing in Ligue 2, according to RMC Sport.
Now Calciomercato (via Sport Witness) report that AC Milan are also tracking the 19-year-old.
Kone, a central midfielder, has scored once in 17 appearances this season and has impressed the watching scouts. So much so so that Leeds “already had contact” with Toulouse, according to the Italian outlet.
They also reported that Serie A giants Milan has also enquired about the player. In fact the Rossoneri had “the opportunity to speak with the agents” of the player.
Toulouse had placed a €10m price tag on the French-born star, who is under contract until June 2022.
On Monday Milan’s interest had progressed to “opening negotiations” with the French side.
However, the interest has led to Toulouse now wanting “close to €15m” for Kone. Read more…
