Legend names Harry Kane as only feasible option for Juventus

Former England manager Fabio Capello feels Tottenham’s Harry Kane is the only player capable of filling Paulo Dybala’s boots at Juventus.

Dybala, 27, has been with the Old Lady since 2015 and is just three goals short of reaching three figures. Capped 29 times by Argentina, he can operate as a striker or an attacking midfielder.

Rumours have begun to circulate that he is looking for a new challenge after refusing to extend his deal. It was reported that the South American opted not to pen fresh terms when offered the chance last summer.

He is under contact at the Allianz Stadium until the summer of 2022. But Juve’s offer was deemed too low despite club president Andrea Agnelli putting a positive spin on proceedings.

“We see him as the captain of the future,” he told Goal earlier this month. “I know he has already received a proposal that would put him among the top 20 best-paid players in Europe. We’re looking forward to his response.”

Manchester United are one of the clubs to be linked with the former Palermo man. Reports suggest that a possible swap deal involving Paul Pogba could be on the cards.

However, Capello – a former Juve player and manager – thinks they should go down another route.

“I wouldn’t swap Dybala to get Pogba,” he said. “If I could, I’d trade him with Tottenham’s English striker Harry Kane.”

It seems highly unlikely that Spurs chief Jose Mourinho would allow the England captain to join Juventus. He continues to score goals for fun with the north Londoners and is a vital part of the team.

Dybala has a great record but Capello feels there is still more to come.

“The impression is that he’s a bit unfinished,” he added. “He captivates but leaves doubts. He needs the physical conditions to return to his best. Paulo needs to be 100 per cent well.”

Dybala tested positive for Covid-19 earlier in the season and has made only eight Serie A appearances this term.

Kane more important than ever

Injuries to key players mean Jose Mourinho needs Kane to stay fit. The prolific marksman has nine Premier League goals this season and 16 in all competitions.

Gareth Bale is now crocked and could miss a couple of weeks with a calf injury. And the Portuguese tactician will also have to do without Brazilian duo Carlos Vinicius and Lucas Moura against Fulham.

Spurs are due to host the Cottagers on Wednesday evening unless Covid-19 postpones the fixture.
