Leicester ‘one step away’ from signing winger linked with Man Utd, Arsenal

Leicester are “one step away” from signing Cengiz Under on loan with an obligation to buy from Roma, according to reports.

Under has fallen down the pecking order at Roma over the past 12 months, and the Premier League looks likely to be his next destination.

But while he had been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham in the past, it is actually Leicester who look set to sign him.

According to Italian journalist Matteo De Santis, who works for La Stampa and is reliable when it comes to Roma news, the Foxes are close to signing the Turkish winger.

Under will move to the King Power Stadium on loan with an obligation to buy. The deal will cost Leicester €28m in total – €3m of which they will pay up front.

Leicester beat Newcastle to Under

Newcastle had also been showing an interest in the 23-year-old as they look for a further attacking reinforcement. However, they were only willing to take him on loan – whereas Leicester are willing to secure a permanent deal.

Under, whose contract lasts until 2023, only made 10 league starts last season. He scored three goals across all competitions, before a change in Roma’s formation left him with fewer opportunities for gametime.

The Italian side are now keen to get his wages off the books, and it appears Leicester will benefit from that.

Under would be the second player to move from Serie A to Leicester this summer, after Timothy Castagne joined from Atalanta.
