Leicester City have reportedly joined Leeds United in the race for Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul.
Leeds are preparing for their first season back in the Premier League since 2003-04, and have been looking to bolster their squad.
They have already broken their long-standing transfer record to sign Spain international forward Rodrigo Moreno from Valencia. German defender Robin Koch was another high-profile addition.
Marcelo Bielsa still wants further reinforcements, and reports emerged recently claiming Leeds were in the hunt for Udinese star De Paul.
The Argentine attacking midfielder has impressed over the past four seasons in Serie A. Now could be the time for him to move on from Udinese, though.
Leeds had been closing in on another club-record deal until De Paul stalled talks due to potential interest from Juventus. However, his activity on social media has hinted that he is well aware of the Leeds rumours.
A new competitor for his signature has now emerged, though. According to SportItalia, Leicester have joined the race for De Paul.
The Italian broadcaster claims Leicester have made an approach for De Paul while negotiating the sale of Adrien Silva to another Serie A side, Sampdoria.
Udinese want up to €40m for De Paul
In a further development, Udinese have reportedly decided to set an asking price of €40m for the 26-year-old. That figure would include bonuses.
Leicester are playing catch-up in their efforts to sign De Paul, though. Transfer market expert Nicolo Schira adds that Leeds have already offered him a four-year contract.
De Paul would have the opportunity to play European football this season at Leicester, though. One of the reasons he has been holding out for Juventus was for the chance to play in the Champions League, and while Leicester just missed out on that, they still have the Europa League to look forward to.
And with no official offer arriving from Serie A, De Paul may be more likely to move to the Premier League before the transfer window shuts.
