Liverpool boss Klopp can get maximum from Barcelona flop, says pundit

Jurgen Klopp is the man to get Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele firing again, according to ESPN pundit Alejandro Moreno.

The 23-year-old’s career looked to be in overdrive when he arrived at Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017.

On the back of a 10-goal season, with 21 assists Barca paid an initial €105m for the right winger, but his struggles in Catalonia have been well documented.

He has simply failed to live up to the hype with just 19 goals and 17 assists in 74 appearances, while this term he has been struck down by a hamstring injury.

According to Sport, the LaLiga champions will place Dembele on the transfer list ahead of the upcoming market, even though the player would prefer to stay at Camp Nou.

Marca also recently claimed “the Frenchman is one of the transferable footballers on the squad” and the Spanish publication say Barca will take a cut-price €60m for the troublesome Frenchman – a loss of  €80m on the player.

There have been a few interested suitors with Juventus and Liverpool understood to be keen on the France international.

In fact Italian transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio said last week the Reds had put forward an offer “in the last few days” that included an option to buy.

That was believed to be Klopp’s Plan B after they removed themselves from the running to sign Timo Werner and Moreno believes Anfield would be the perfect destination for Dembele, who reportedly turned down the offer.

“Well it’s enticing and it’s intriguing to believe that if there was ever a manager out there who could well get the very best out of Ousmane Dembele it would be Jurgen Klopp,” Moreno, 40, told ESPN.

“And now, with the reports of Timo Werner perhaps going to Chelsea and Liverpool missing out on Timo Werner, that maybe if they’re going for a wide-area attacking player well maybe that could be Ousmane Dembele, why not?

Change of scenery

“And under the right circumstances and at the right price, if they meet Barcelona’s needs then I don’t see why this couldn’t work.

“I think a change of scenery could be good for Ousmane Dembele and I think going into a team like Liverpool would certainly be something that would benefit the player and maybe Jurgen Klopp is the guy who has the answers.

“At some point though, Ousmane Dembele has to take a good look in the mirror and say: ‘What do I want out of my career and am I willing to make the sacrifices in order to make sure I can become the player that I think I can be?’.”
