Liverpool transfer news: Why Werner deal could lead to Salah leaving, Coutinho linked with shock move to rival Premier League club

Transfer rumours always set the pulses racing, and it’s especially the case now as there hasn’t been any football on over the last few weeks.

Premier League leaders Liverpool are always linked with a number of players.

So in case you missed any rumours about them, has created a handy round-up of the recent reports involving Liverpool in the transfer market.

Timo Werner

Where better to start than the RB Leipzig frontman who looks destined to leave the Bundesliga side this summer.

Liverpool are the frontrunners to sign Werner, who is understood to be available for £51million.

There haven’t been any recent developments on how close he is to joining Liverpool, but Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas believes Werner’s arrival could lead to Mohamed Salah leaving Anfield.

He told Sky Sports: “As much as Liverpool are talking about Timo Werner coming from RB Leipzig and potential other buys, it might be Salah that gets moved on.

“I would be careful about Mane, as I believe even Lionel Messi picked him as one of his Ballon d’Or choices.

“Salah has been great and Liverpool fans love him, but the two they may want to keep are Mane and Firmino.

“They have more options about them, not better players necessarily. Salah is that type as he gets the goals.”

Diego Carlos

Dejan Lovren is set to leave the club when his contract expires in the summer so Jurgen Klopp will want to recruit in defence.

Marca, as quoted by ESPN, report that a move for the 27-year-old is being weighed up, however, LaLiga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are also understood to be interested in him.

Houssem Aouar

The Lyon midfielder has the makings to become a future star so it’s no surprise that he’s been linked with a move to Anfield.

However, The Sun reports that Liverpool will go up against Manchester City and Arsenal to secure the services of the £65million-rated Aouar, 21.

Malick Thiaw

And talking of youngsters, plenty of top clubs in Europe have their eye on Schalke starlet Thiawe.

The 18-year-old was being touted to make the same move Joel Matip did when signing for Liverpool in 2016.

Sport1, however, claims that Thiawe is happy to stay in Germany.

Boubakary Soumare

Liverpool may have Fabinho to carry out the defensive midfield duties, but recent reports suggest that they are considering a bid for another one in Frenchman Soumare.

Klopp is a huge fan of the 21-year-old Lille star, according to Sport.

However, there could be a summer tug of war for Soumare, with Chelsea and Manchester United also thought to be interested in him.

Xherdan Shaqiri

Switzerland international Shaqiri has made no secret of being frustrated at his lack of playing time this season.

Shaqiri has started just twice in the Premier League this term and looks set to leave Anfield two years after joining from Stoke.

Swiss newspaper Blick, as quoted by Team Talk, reports that Spanish club Sevilla are looking to sign Shaqiri with the promise of regular first-team football that Liverpool cannot guarantee him.

Philippe Coutinho

Given he left to join Barcelona back in January 2018, Coutinho’s movements don’t really have anything to do with Liverpool any more.

However, we’ve included this latest rumour about the Brazilian as it would be a huge bombshell if it would happen.

Coutinho is understood to be looking for a move away from Barcelona, having hugely struggled in his time at the Camp Nou.

He’s improved while on loan at Bayern Munich but the German giants are not expected to keep him on.

Chelsea have been linked with a loan move for the midfielder but it’s Liverpool’s local rivals Everton who have entered the race to sign him, according to Sport.

It would lead to a whole new level of rivalry between the Merseyside clubs if Coutinho were to sign for the Toffees.

Give COVID-19 the red card

The quicker we work together to stop coronavirus spreading, the sooner we can get back into the pubs, the gyms and stadiums and arenas to see live sport again…

STAY AT HOME. Only leave for the following purposes:

  • to shop for basic essentials – only when you really need to
  • to do one form of exercise a day – such as a run, walk or cycle, alone or with other people you live with
  • for any medical need – for example, to visit a pharmacy or deliver essential supplies to a vulnerable person
  • to travel to and from work – but only where this is absolutely necessary

For more info and tips, visit the NHS website.

The government has also issued further detail on what we can do during lockdown.

Everyone should do what they can to stop coronavirus spreading.
