Major Haaland ‘friction’ prompts Solskjaer to move for 14-goal striker from Premier League rivals

Manchester United are reportedly set to fail in their attempts to sign Erling Haaland, due to their sour relationship with the striker and his agent, Mino Raiola.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was desperate to sign his fellow Norwegian from RB Salzburg last year.

Haaland was courted by teams from across Europe but ended up joining Borussia Dortmund for €20million.

Solskjaer had worked with the 20-year-old at Molde and knew the qualities the frontman possessed.

But negotiations did not go too well. It now appears the friction that remains will likely prevent a deal from happening.

The Red Devils still hold a strong interest in the player, with The Athletic claiming he is top of Solskjaer’s wishlist.

But the relationship between club officials and Raiola is still poor. Those relations have been further strained following Raiola’s stance over United star Paul Pogba.

The super agent admitted recently that his client wanted out of Manchester but has since backtracked on the comments.

With that in mind, a report in the Daily Mirror claims United have now switched targets to Dominic Calvert Lewin.

The Everton striker has been on fire this season, having bagged 14 goals in 16 games in all competitions.

The England frontman is still under contract until 2025 and it would take a huge offer to tempt the Toffees into selling.

Calvert-Lewin’s style of play is very similar to that of Haaland, which fits in with Solskjaer’s plans.

United are in the market for a new frontman, with Odion Ighalo heading back to China in January.

Edinson Cavani is only contracted until the end of the season, following his move as a free agent this summer.

Pundit urges Inter swap with United

Inter Milan should try to organise a swap deal with Manchester United involving Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek, according to one pundit.

Both players have largely struggled to show their best form since making their recent moves across Europe.

Eriksen moved from Tottenham to Inter last January but has found it hard to fit into Antonio Conte’s system.

Van de Beek, meanwhile, has not enjoyed the level of game time he would have hoped prior to his recent summer move from Ajax.

However, former AC Milan star Alessandro Costacurta has claimed to propose a solution for both players. He said (via Calciomercato) that a swap deal involving both players would be good business for their clubs. Read more…
