Man Utd confident of huge new Pogba deal after major breakthrough

Paul Pogba is close to finalising a huge new five-year deal at Manchester United to end months of speculation over his future, according to a report.

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford for some time. Indeed, his agent, Mino Raiola, continually talked up the prospect earlier this season.

The speculation came amid injuries hampering Pogba’s progress; the 27-year-old had only made eight appearances this season before lockdown due to two foot injuries.

However, he has emerged post-lockdown with fresh motivation, which The Sun claims has triggered his change of heart.

The newspaper claims boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had begun to plan for life without Pogba next season.

Since football resumed, though, the midfielder has shown an upturn in desire and form. As such, there is now a belief that both the player and the club can agree to the new deal.

The Sun adds that United are confident of announcing the five-year contract at the end of the season.

The Red Devils‘ Premier League duties end next weekend, however, their season will run into August. United are still in the Europa League and could feature in the FA Cup final on August 1.

Pogba has made himself of the first names on the team sheet since lockdown. Indeed, he could play his eighth match since the restart against Palace – as many appearances as before the pause.

“I’ve been speaking more or less every day with Paul,” Solskjaer said in a press conference on Wednesday.

“Of course he knows that he wouldn’t be dropped, but when Paul plays like this he wouldn’t be dropped from any team in the world – France or Man United.

“But he’s been out for a long, long time. There was a question mark before this game [against Southampton]. “‘How do you feel?’ and he felt ready for it and that was great, so now let’s see how he is today or even tomorrow morning.

“He’s been fantastic since the restart and brought a lot to the team. There were one or two question marks before the Southampton game about who was going to play but we made the decisions that we did.”
