Man Utd eye raid as Arsenal set fee in growing plans to axe divisive star

Manchester United have joined a host of clubs keen on signing divisive Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, according to reports.

The Frenchman grabbed Brighton striker Neal Maupay’s throat last weekend. avoiding a charge from the FA.

However, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta was less lenient, dropping Guendouzi for Thursday’s defeat of Southampton after a disciplinary meeting.

As such, recent reports claim Real Madrid and Barcelona want to sign the France Under-21 international.

What’s more, L’Equipe (via the Daily Mail) now says United have joined the interested parties and want to swoop for the midfielder.

The newspaper says Arsenal will demand at least £36million for Guendouzi, with interest also arriving from Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan.

The Daily Mirror claimed that the 21-year-old wants out over a perceived lack of trust from Arteta.

The Spanish manager has only handed Guendouzi four starts since taking over from Unai Emery, who showed him more faith before his sacking.

And L’Equipe adds the midfielder sees Arsenal regressing and fears for his place at the rescheduled Euro 2021 championships.

The Gunners resumed their Premier League campaign with defeats to Manchester City and Brighton and a spot in Europe next season is highly unlikely.

Speaking after Thursday’s defeat of the Saints, Arteta said he would resolve the situation between Guendouzi and the club.

The manager said of his decision to drop the player: “It was squad management. Whatever issue we have internally, I will resolve in a private way.”

As well as their poor on-field form since the restart, Arsenal’s contract issues involving several players have emerged.

The club eventually tied David Luiz down to a one-year extension, with the defender’s agent detailing the fraught negotiations on both sides.

What’s more, Arsenal have resolved Pablo Mari’s future after much uncertainty. The centre-back’s serious injury threw a permanent deal following his loan spell into doubt.

Arsenal return to action on Sunday with an FA Cup quarter-final against Sheffield United.
