Man Utd find new clubs for duo after encountering struggles on loan

Manchester United have cut short the loan spells of both Tahith Chong and James Garner at Werder Bremen and Watford respectively, finding the duo new homes.

The pair both left United on loan at the start of the season to build up experience elsewhere. However, they have endured mixed fortunes.

United winger Chong has joined Club Brugge after his spell with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen was cut short.

The 21-year-old featured just 13 times for Bremen after joining on loan in the summer transfer window.

There had been plenty of rumours that Chong would not last the full season in the Bundesliga and that has ultimately come to be the case.

Holland Under-21 international Chong, who has made 16 appearances for United, will now spend the rest of the season with the Belgian giants who he played against for the Red Devils in last season’s Europa League.

Chong wrote on Twitter: “It’s been a pleasure to represent this club (Bremen) for the last few months. Even though it wasn’t long, I learnt a lot and I leave the club with some great memories and friendships.

“Good luck for the rest of the season.”

Garner also switches clubs

Meanwhile, Garner has joined Nottingham Forest on loan until the end of the season after parent club United cut short his spell at Watford.

The 19-year-old midfielder made a strong start to the season at Vicarage Road and has played in 20 of the Hornets’ 26 Championship games. But he has been frozen out of the side since the arrival of new manager Xisco Munoz.

United have therefore made the decision to recall him and set the England Under-20 international up with a new loan move to another Championship side in Forest.

Forest manager Chris Hughton told the club website: “James is a promising young talent in central midfield and that is an area where we’ve had injury problems and players missing in recent weeks.

“He has completed a good spell at Watford where he has picked up some much-needed Championship experience and we’re confident he will be a valuable asset to us between now and the end of the season.”
