Man Utd, Liverpool braced as Bayern Munich prepare to sell €50m star

Bayern Munich are pondering whether to sell David Alaba rather than seeing him run down his contract in Bavaria.

The Austria international has excelled during his 10-year stay at the Allianz Arena, but is current deal expires in 2021 and there has been no breakthrough in contract talks.

Negotiations between the parties have been ongoing for 12 months, but the 27-year-old appears no closer to extending his contract.

Don Balon claimed in April that Alaba was available for a cut-price fee of around €50million and that both Liverpool and Manchester United could be set to enter the running for his signature.

Now the Daily Telegraph has reinforced the idea that Bayern will sell Alaba so they will not lose him for free in 12 months’ times.

The report claims: “Alaba is expected to attract interest from cash-rich Premier League clubs in a position to spend when the transfer window opens at the end of the campaign.”

Paris St-Germain are understood to be interested in the versatile Alaba, who can play at left-back, centre-back or in midfield.

‘This is Grimm’s Fairy Tale’

The paper also states that “Alaba worked with Pep Guardiola when the Manchester City manager was at Bayern for three years” and “he also faced Jurgen Klopp when the Liverpool manager was competing for the Bundesliga title with Borussia Dortmund”.

In fact earlier this year it was claimed Man City could ask for Alaba in a swap deal to send Leroy Sane to the Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge quickly condemned those reports though

“I’ve heard, rumours are circulating that we would like to hand David Alaba over to Manchester City in exchange for Leroy Sane,” he was quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

“In addition, I say very clearly: This is Grimm’s Fairy Tale and has nothing to do with reality.

“I would like to say very clearly that this is not an option for Bayern at all, we are not in the bazaar.”
