Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has shut down reports that Kingsley Coman could be allowed to join Manchester United when the transfer window opens.
United were desperate to bolster their right wing this summer and saw multiple efforts for Jadon Sancho fail.
They also saw a bid for Ousmane Dembele fail on deadline day – not that Barcelona were best pleased.
United were also linked with Federicho Chiesa, while Bayern’s Coman was also named as a potential target.
Salihamidzic, however, is adamant United did not make a summer approach. Furthermore, he states their advances would have been knocked back and has also rejected talk a deal could be done in January.
Speaking to German outlet Bild, he said: “There was nothing, and we wouldn’t have looked into it either.
“His goal in the Champions League final should explain enough why we are relying on him wholeheartedly.”
Speculation linking United with Coman emerged after the player’s admission that he’d like to play alongside Paul Pogba.
“If I could choose a player, I would like to have [Paul] Pogba for Bayern,” Coman told Bild in July.
“This would be fantastic. He has unbelievable abilities and is a fantastic midfielder.
“Apart from this he is not only important on the pitch. He has a huge marketing value. He stays in people’s minds.”
United warned over January bid for Sancho
Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, will not entertain any offers from United for Sancho in January, claims a report.
The England attacker was United’s top summer transfer target, but they failed to get anywhere near signing the 20-year-old.
It’s understood the Bundesliga side were open to selling Sancho at the start of the summer, on their own terms.
Sporting director Michael Zorc laid out their demands – a £108m transfer fee and a deadline to do the deal by August 10.
Whether or not United will try and move for either of the duo in January is unclear, but Dortmund’s stance on Sancho is.
Bild say that rumours of Man Utd making a January move are “without any concrete background”.
