Man Utd to miss out, with Real Madrid ‘likely’ to sign €60m midfield target

Real Madrid look “likely” to beat Manchester United and Tottenham to the signature of Rennes starlet Eduardo Camavinga, according to reports.

Camavinga is one of the biggest prospects in European football, having made his first team debut for Rennes at the age of just 16.

Still only 17, Camavinga has since established himself as a regular for the French side, with whom he will play in the Champions League this season.

Given his rapid rise, it is unlikely that Rennes will be able to keep hold of him for too long. Reports have suggested he has two major suitors in the Premier League.

Monday’s European papers claimed that Jose Mourinho wants to take the midfielder to Tottenham next summer.

But it is Manchester United who have been most heavily linked with taking him to the Premier League. Recently, it was claimed they had a formula to tempt Rennes into extending their own offer instead of others.

However, it won’t be straight-forward for United to sign him. In fact, The Athletic now claim that Real Madrid is the “likely destination” for the teenager.

Madrid are long-term admirers of Camavinga, who already has three caps for the French national team. Compatriot Zinedine Zidane is well aware of what the youngster can do.

Real have the spending power it takes to beat off rivals for expensive players, with Camavinga set to cost around €60m. The La Liga champions were not able to pay that this summer, but the situation will be different come 2021.

And having identified the Rennes star as an ideal target, they could make him their long-term successor to Casemiro. The Brazilian is still a first team regular at 28 years old, but Madrid could look to the future and bring in competition for his place.

Camavinga not focused on transfer speculation

Back in May, Camavinga admitted that he is aware of the transfer speculation surrounding his future. However, he is not focusing on it too much.

“Honestly, I don’t focus too much on that,” he said at the time. “Certainly, it’s nice that big clubs like the ones mentioned are interested in me, but conversely, I’m not too interested in that.

“Especially since I am doing well at Rennes. We’ll see what happens next, I’ll let my parents and my agents manage this.

“I don’t look too much, but I see anyway. In fact, I can’t avoid it. Sometimes, I’m quickly on social networks and I see things or friends send me articles.”
