Man Utd use Sporting connection to wrap up £14m wonderkid agreement

Manchester United will have first refusal for Sporting teenager Luis Gomes after reaching an agreement with the Portuguese club, according to a report.

The Daily Mirror claims that United will get an exclusive chance to sign the 16-year-old, if he becomes available.

The Red Devils reportedly used the clubs’ strong relations to agree a first-refusal deal for the young talent.

Gomes, who many have described as the ‘next’ Luis Figo, signed his first professional deal last week.

Should United choose to sign the teenager in the future, he will cost the Old Trafford club £14million.

The newspaper also says that Atletico Madrid made – but failed with – enquiries about Gomes. As such, United have swooped in and are actively keeping tabs on his development.

Despite only recently committing his future to Sporting, United is reportedly Gomes’ ‘ultimate’ destination.

Indeed he would become the fourth player United have signed from the Portuguese club in recent years. Cristiano Ronaldo arrived with great success, while Nani played a crucial role during his time at Old Trafford.

More recently, Bruno Fernandes had had a stunning impact on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side since his January move.

The 26-year-old scored one goal and assisted another to help his side sink Newcastle 4-1 last weekend.

Man Utd snapping up exciting talent

Gomes’ arrival would come after a strong United drive in recent months some of the world’s most promising talents.

Solskjaer’s side recently brought in Charlie McNeill, who moved from Manchester City and has entered the club’s academy ranks.

What’s more, fellow young talents Marc Jurado and Alejandro Garnacho have joined him.

Jurado was one of the hottest young Barcelona talents, while Garnacho was described as the ‘jewel’ of Atletico Madrid’s academy.

United did not finish there, though. Uruguayan youngster Facundo Pellistri, 18, signed on deadline day, as did Atalanta winger Amad Traore, also 18.

The latter will move to Old Trafford in January.
