Midfielder waiting for surprise deal after derisory Arsenal loan offer

Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos has reportedly earmarked former side Real Betis as a potential next destination amid continued uncertainty over his future.

Ceballos spent this season on loan at Arsenal, returning to Spain after the protracted Premier League season.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, he is aware that game time in Madrid could be hard to come by. He is unlikely to feature much in Zinedine Zidane’s plans.

What’s more, Zidane is likely to test Martin Odegaard out next season after his impressive spell with Real Sociedad.

As such, Ceballos is in limbo and, in Arsenal’s case, the Gunners have reportedly made a new loan offer for the midfielder.

Arsenal have made a “downward” proposal, refusing to pay more for his transfer than they did last time. Additionally, the Gunners only wanted to pay half his salary, something Madrid president Florentino Perez has rejected.

Ceballos is open to a return to north London; the Spaniard feels it would give him a strong platform for claiming a place in his country’s Euro 2021 squad.

However, Mundo Deportivo adds that Ceballos “waits” for Betis, where he developed as a youth player.

Betis themselves would be keen to land Ceballos on another deal, having sold him to Madrid in 2017.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirmed last month that the club are “talking” to Madrid about a new deal for the midfielder.

He added (via the Daily Express): “Obviously we don’t own the player, he’s not in our hands so the clubs will need to have a communication and see what we can do.

“We have to be open to different situations. And I think the market will give us the opportunity to do certain deals like this [swaps] but at the moment I cannot comment on any of that.”

Meanwhile, further reports claim Arsenal are close to completing a deal for Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

Lille chief Gerard Lopez has confirmed that the Brazilian will leave this summer and that he has had a choice of clubs to choose from.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Everton and Napoli have been linked.
