Ozil agent sets out definitive January timeline after confirming exit talks

Mesut Ozil’s agent says that the Arsenal midfielder’s future will become clearer in the next “seven to 10 days”, as he begins preparations to leave north London.

Ozil has entered the final six months of his Gunners deal, meaning he is free to talk to overseas clubs.

Indeed, reports have claimed that the 32-year-old is close to a move to Fenerbahce. Meanwhile, he has also entertained links with MLS side DC United.

Speaking to ESPN, Dr Erkut Sogut has said that while his client could leave this month, nothing is certain.

“We were not allowed to talk legally before Jan 1 so now we are just starting to look at the options with the numbers and details,” the agent said.

“I can’t talk about the clubs directly because it would be unprofessional but generally, there is six months left on the contract and it is nothing unusual that we will talk to people about different opportunities and try to find the best option for Mesut.

“He might stay at Arsenal until the summer but he might go. Mesut’s priority is to stay but you never know in football, things can change very fast. For the moment, we are just checking all the options for January and the summer.

“If we want to leave in January, I need to talk to Arsenal. If we sign for the summer, we don’t need to. That’s the situation.

“In the next seven to ten days, it will be a little clearer as now the transfer window is open, things can move faster.”

ESPN claims in their article that ‘no agreement is close with any club’. What’s more, the outlet adds that talks with DC United remain in their infancy.

Arsenal, meanwhile, confirmed to ESPN that they have so far not held any talks with any club about Ozil.

The former Germany international has been linked with a move away from north London for some time. However, exit speculation ramped up this season after he did not earn a place in Arsenal’s Premier League or Europa League squads.

Ceballos makes Arsenal exit claim

Meanwhile, Dani Ceballos is another Arsenal player who will leave The Emirates in the coming months.

The Spanish midfielder is enjoying a second season-long loan in north London from Real Madrid.

But he has expressed his desire to try to fight for his place with Los Blancos.
