Paper Talk: Arsenal swoop for former Chelsea striker runs into big problem; Milan in shock deal for Palace star

Arsenal want to bring a familar face back to the Premier League, but past actions could come back to haunt them, while AC Milan are ready to give a Crystal Palace star a dream move to Italy, according to Tuesday’s transfer gossip.

ATLETICO READY TO SELL DIEGO COSTA

Arsenal are reportedly leading the chase for Diego Costa after Atletico Madrid put the striker up for sale.

The former Chelsea man has lost his way at the Wanda Metropolitano following the summer arrival of Luis Suarez.

Indeed, Spain striker Costa has started just four LaLiga games for Diego Simeone’s high-flying side.

It was reported that Costa had met with Simeone to express his frustrations at the situation. As such, AS now reports he has been put up for sale, six months before his contract expires.

His £13.75m asking price has alerted some clubs in the Middle East and China.

However, Costa is not thought to be ready to move there and wants to continue at one of Europe’s big five leagues.

As such, Arsenal are reported to have shown their hand and want Costa to bring more bite to their attack. The Brazil-born frontman was regularly a scourge of theirs during Costa’s days at Stamford Bridge.

However, according to the Daily Express, Arsenal’s pursuit of Costa has run into something of a problem.

It’s reported Atleti would rather sell to ‘anyone but Arsenal’. That’s because the Spaniards are still fuming over Arsenal’s last-gasp capture of Thomas Partey on the last deadline day.

Atleti were confident of keeping the Ghanaian and were left aghast when Arsenal met his exit clause with LaLiga with just hours to spare. That left Atleti with no time to bring in a replacement in midfield.

As such, it’s reported Atletico would snub Arsenal’s approach for Costa. Instead, they could look to let his deal wind down.

Alternatively, it’s suggested Atletico could be convinced were the Gunners to let Alexandre Lacazette move the other way. That deal, however, would require a cash adjustment in Arsenal’s favour with Lacazette valued much higher than Costa.
