Paper Talk: Barcelona drop asking price for Man Utd target to £45m; Spurs have ace up sleeve in Rodon chase

Barcelona are willing to sell Ousmane Dembele to Man Utd for a bargain fee in January, while Tottenham have an ace up their sleeve in their bid to sign Joe Rodon, according to Sunday’s transfer gossip.

Barcelona are reportedly willing to sell Ousmane Dembele to Manchester United in the January transfer window in a deal starting at £45million.

United made a late push to sign the France winger in the closing stages of the summer transfer window, having failed to land top attacking target Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

Dembele, however, turned down the chance to move to Old Trafford, with some reports suggesting he is holding out for a move to Juventus.

United and Barcelona also ran out of time in negotiations, as the Red Devils wanted to sign Dembele on loan with a purchase option, while Barca’s preference was to permanently sell the player.

According to Sport, as cited by Metro, Barcelona’s stance remains unchanged – although they are now willing to sell the 23-year-old for an initial £45m fee.

The report adds that the Catalan giants still want Dembele to renew his contract, which would drive up his valuation – but if the attacker refuses then the club will look to offload him permanently.

Barca had been holding out for €100m (£90.6m) fee for Dembele a few months ago, but they have now been forced to drastically cut that figure.

Dembele has less than two years remaining on his current contract and the LaLiga side do not want him to enter the final year of his contract without signing a renewal.

From United’s point of view, it remains to be seen if they will renew their interest in the player.

There have been reports that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already instructed Ed Woodward to renew the club’s interest in Sancho and Erling Haaland in January.

That would effectively rule out a move for Dembele and more than likely allow Juve to swoop for the pacy attacker.
