Paper Talk: Liverpool told £50m will seal signing of new centre-back; Chelsea chasing January midfielder deal

Liverpool have been told to stump up £50million if they want to sign a January centre-back target, while Chelsea are set to renew their interest in a Bundesliga midfielder, according to Thursday’s paper gossip.

Liverpool have reportedly been told they can complete a deal for Brighton defender Ben White if they pay £50million this January.

The Reds are expected to be in the market for a new centre-back, with Virgil van Dijk likely to be out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.

White, 23, is regarded as a massive prospect for the future after excelling on loan at Leeds last season.

He has carried that form into the new campaign with the Seagulls, but The Sun claims that the south coast club are willing to do business for the player – if their £50m valuation is met.

White has previously been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea. So Jurgen Klopp’s men may have a fight on their hands to sign the player.

Klopp has so far distanced himself from transfer rumours stating Liverpool could enter the market for a new centre-back, but a player of White’s quality potentially being available could be too good to turn down.

The one shining light from Van Dijk’s injury has been the ability of Fabinho to step in and look like he has played the position his whole career.

The midfielder was outstanding alongside Joe Gomez in the Champions League win at Ajax, with Joel Matip also currently on the sidelines for the Reds.
