Manchester United are considering a shock swoop for a Burnley man in 2021, while Chelsea could find their attacking options lighter with a big goal threat determined to leave in January, according to Monday’s paper gossip.
JAMES TARKOWSKI WANTED BY MAN UTD
Manchester United are monitoring the progress of James Tarkowski ahead of a possible swoop in 2021.
United missed out on several of their top targets this summer in a botched summer recruitment drive. The failure to land Jadon Sancho was the most apparent.
However, United also wanted to beef up their central defensive options. Victor Lindelof’s performances have come under scrutiny, with United seeking a new partner for skipper Harry Maguire.
Kalidou Koulibaly, Dayot Upamecano and Nathan Ake were all mentioned as targets.
However, according to The Athletic, via the Daily Mirror, United were also considering a swoop for Tarkowski.
The 27-year-old- Burnley star was born in Manchester and was the subject of a failed bid from West Ham this summer.
The Hammers bid up to £35m to land the twice-capped England defender, only to see the Clarets rebuff their efforts.
However, it is thought a deal worth £40m would tempt Burnley to sell.
The Clarets are struggling to compete financially and the sale of Tarkowski could allow them to strengthen their squad.
While United did not make an official move in the summer, Tarkowski is a player they are monitoring. As such, a January swoop, or indeed next summer, is not out of the question.
