Pundit urges Jadon Sancho to hold off on potential Man Utd switch

Danny Murphy has urged Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho not to force through a move to Manchester United as he may have more options available to him next year.

Sancho has been heavily linked with a switch to the Red Devils in recent months. The 20-year-old is understood to be at the top of United’s transfer wishlist.

However, Dortmund’s sporting director appeared to rule out a deal when he insisted Sancho will stay with the German side next season.

Talk has followed that Sancho could take matters in to his own hands by handing in a transfer request. The Englishman is thought to be tempted by a move to Old Trafford.

But Murphy has told him to wait another year before pushing for a transfer, stating more teams will be in for him next summer. The financial impact of the coronavirus means most clubs will not be able to afford huge transfer fees this year.

In his column for the Daily Mail, cited on Goal, Murphy said: “United are an attractive proposition, one of the biggest clubs in the world with a young and exciting team.  But Sancho won’t be short of suitors in his career and he’ll be aware that in a year’s time, when football finances are a bit steadier, he may have a choice that also includes Liverpool, his ‘local’ team Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“It’s possible he may prefer to wait and weigh up his options after the Euros next summer rather than rocking the boat now by telling Dortmund he wants to leave.

“If that’s the case and United are fighting against an inflated fee and a player considering other options, they have a problem. And that’s without factoring in the agent fees that usually accompany a deal like this.

“Sancho is young and publicly respectful but his career to date indicates a player who knows his own mind and will have a say in his future. If his heart really is set on joining United, there are ways of letting all relevant parties aware.

“Whatever is beneficial for your career, you are going to try to make it happen. If United know that, I’d pay Dortmund the asking price even if I admire the principle of not being dictated to. Sancho’s value isn’t going to diminish.

“However, judging by what I’ve seen so far there is no rebellion from Sancho, which makes me sense he’s not desperate to move to United.”

Solskjaer identifies five Sancho alternatives

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to have conceded defeat in his pursuit of Sancho, having previously been insistent he must be signed.

And according to the Evening Standard, he has now drawn up a five-man shortlist of other potential targets.

Players currently starring in Spain, Italy and France all feature, while Tottenham’s Harry Kane is also one of those named.
