The race is on to sign Rhian Brewster after Liverpool were reported to have signalled their intention to let the young striker leave on loan.
The England Under-21 frontman impressed during a loan spell with Swansea in the second half of the season. He scored 11 times in 25 appearances as Steve Cooper’s side reached the play-offs.
Brewster was thought to be hoping for a chance to prove himself to Jurgen Klopp next season. However, according to Goal, Klopp wants the striker to continue his education elsewhere and another loan exit is likely to be sanctioned.
This time, however, Liverpool want Brewster to move to a fellow Premier League side to see how his game develops.
As such, it’s reported as many as six Premier League sides have already made contact with the Reds over a potential deal.
As per Goal, Brighton are leading the chase for the frontman. But there is also interest from Aston Villa, Newcastle, Burnley and Crystal Palace. Newly-promoted Fulham are also keen.
The 20-year-old also has interest in from the Championship. Relegated trio Norwich, Bournemouth and Watford are all said to be keen.
Liverpool, however, are adamant that Brewster is no ready for a chance at a higher lever.
As such, Liverpool and the player’s agent will now reportedly consider the best approach for which to continue his football education.
Brewster will hope to use his next loan spell to prove to Klopp he has what it takes to make it at Anfield. His first-team prospects do look bleak at present, however, given Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino’s status.
But a year on loan at a rival Premier League side would give the striker the prospects of underlining his credentials to be a useful member of Klopp’s squad.
Klopp left stunned by Liverpool youngster
Klopp, meanwhile, says teenage defender Billy Koumetio is a “big talent” after allowing him to join one of his side’s first-team training sessions.
The Reds are in Austria on a training camp as they gear up for the defence of their Premier League title.
As well as the regular stars and new signing Kostas Tsimikas, Liverpool also brought some of their younger talents on board.
Among them was 17-year-old Koumetio, a two-time France Under-18 international. Speaking to his club’s official website, Klopp admitted surprise at the teenager’s ability after inviting him to a training session.
“Billy the kid. He doesn’t look like a kid!” Klopp said. “In my opinion, his face looks like a kid but then all the rest is like, wow!
“I told him, ‘Last time I saw you, you were like 20 centimetres less if I’m right.’ That’s pretty special. Yes, he’s a big talent.”
