Solskjaer tries ‘in vain’ to persuade Man Utd fringe player to stay

Andreas Pereira will be leaving Manchester United this summer despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanting him to stay, according to reports.

Pereira has featured more heavily this season than in any other year of his United career. However, he still started less than half of United’s Premier League games.

Therefore, he is looking for a way out of Old Trafford this summer. That’s according to Esporte Interativo, who also reveal that Solskjaer has been trying to convince him to stay.

According to the Brazilian outlet, Solskjaer has “tried in vain” to persuade Pereira to stay. But at 24 years of age, the midfielder wants more guarantees of first team football.

While Solskjaer wants to retain his services, Pereira is still not a major part of his first team plans. Hence, the midfielder has instructed his agent, Kia Joorabchian, to search for a new club.

Potential suitors have already come forward from Portugal, Germany and Spain. Valencia are the only club to be mentioned specifically; he previously spent time on loan there in the 2017-18 season, and they have just lost midfield duo Dani Parejo and Francis Coquelin to Villarreal.

Even though Pereira remains under contract until 2023, Esporte Interativo‘s report insists he is almost certain to leave this summer.

Reports back in June suggested that United would cash in on Pereira when the transfer window opened, to fund moves for other targets. Newcastle, Everton and West Ham were said to be interested at the time.

PSG SWOOP FOR IGHALO?

Pereira is not the only United player being linked with an exit. Reports have also emerged suggesting that Odion Ighalo has become a target for PSG.

Ighalo has done quite well on loan at Old Trafford from Shanghai Shenhua. But with PSG looking for a new striker and Ighalo yet to start a Premier League game for United, they have made contact with his entourage.

The Ligue 1 giants admire Ighalo for his experience, quality and affordability – with a contract due to run out in China in December 2021.
