Talks held as Champions League finalist is ‘seduced’ by idea of transfer to Chelsea

Chelsea have emerged as favourites to sign Thiago Silva as the veteran defender prepares to play his final game for PSG.

The 35-year-old defender will leave PSG after their mouthwatering Champions League final clash with Bayern Munich on Sunday.

Silva has won seven Ligue 1 titles since joining PSG for £36million from AC Milan in 2012. But the French giants have chosen not to renew his contract his summer.

It was claimed earlier this week that Frank Lampard’s men have been offered the chance to bring Silva to Stamford Bridge.

Lampard wants a new centre-back to bolster his back-line after Chelsea conceded more goals (54) than any top-10 club last season.

It’s claimed Lampard feels Silva would help bolster his shaky backline and bring a calming presence to their side.

Now The Guardian has revealed that Thiago Silva’s representatives have now held concrete talks with Chelsea. Multiple sources claim a 12-month deal has been put forward. That would be extended to a second year were he to prove himself a capable performer.

Furthermore, French outlet Telefoot claims Thiago Silva is ‘really seduced’ by the idea of playing at Chelsea and in the Premier League.

Chelsea do, however, face competition in the form of Fiorentina. They are believed to have tabled a two-year contract.

The Guardian states the Blues do have other defensive irons in the fire. The likes of Ben White, Jose Gimenez and Declan Rice are all also being considered.

One of Chelsea’s other targets – Brighton defender Lewis Dunk – on Friday committed to a new deal with the Seagulls.

Reports on Friday claim Chelsea have also lined up two more impressive signings from Spain.

As per Sport, are keen on a deal for Espanyol midfielder Nico Melamed, who can leave for €8m this summer.

The teenager has just a handful of appearances to his name but is tipped for big things. A clause in his contract allows him to move on for €8m this summer and Sport claims Chelsea are pursuing his signature.

The same paper also believes the Blues will soon wrap up a deal for on-loan Sevilla man Sergio Reguilon. The state the Chelsea hierarchy believe his €25m asking price is something of a “bargain”.
