‘This is the strangest championship I have won’: PSG captain Thiago Silva says he is proud of his team after Ligue 1 cancellation saw them crowned champions – as he dedicates triumph to medical staff fighting coronavirus

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva has spoken out after his team were crowned Ligue 1 champions following the cancellation of the season due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Silva, who is one of only two players to win seven championship titles since the arrival of Qatari investment in Paris, said he is proud of his team despite the unusual nature of their success.

France‘s top-flight season was called to a halt on Tuesday, and after a meeting on Thursday, Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) CEO Didier Quillot confirmed that the Parisiens had been handed the title based on points-per-game.
