Total cost of Leeds, Rodrigo deal to skyrocket past £40m, claims report

Leeds will end up splashing out at least £48million on both the transfer fee and wages in the deal to bring Rodrigo Moreno to Elland Road, according to a report.

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani and sporting director Victor Orta were in Valencia on Tuesday to thrash out an agreement.

They succeeded, with Valencia announcing late on Tuesday that they had reached a deal with the Whites.

Orta, meanwhile, later confirmed further details to the Spanish press.

The sporting director revealed Rodrigo will be “the most expensive signing” in Leeds’ history, with Football Insider claiming the exact figures.

The source says the initial transfer will cost £27million plus add-ons. What’s more, Leeds will hand Rodrigo a contract worth £100,000 per week, which will put him among the club’s top earners.

Leeds have faith that the marquee signing – who they expect will lead their Premier League charge up front – will flourish with such backing.

However, even without the add-ons, Football Insider adds that the deal will reach £48million with his wages. As such, the total cost of the deal could end up reaching £50million if those add-ons come into force.

Orta added that Leeds see the signing of Rodrigo as a “strategic” one.

He said: “I want to thank the club, Rodrigo’s father and the player. They have trusted us from the beginning. We have ambition to grow and we must thank Valencia, they have behaved very good.

“Hopefully we finish the documentation. For us it is a strategic signing to stabilise ourselves in the Premier League.

“It was a fair negotiation. I have been in football for 16 years and it is one of the first times that I see the three parties very happy.”

BIELSA GETS HIS WISH UP FRONT

TEAMtalk-Leeds-Bielsa

Leeds had identified a new striker as a priority heading into the summer transfer window.

Boss Marcelo Bielsa was keen to find support for Patrick Bamford, who has nevertheless continued to impress.

However, Bielsa is also reportedly after a winger, with Ryan Kent a firm target. Leeds had a £10million bid rejected for the Rangers star but Gers head coach Steven Gerrard has admitted that Kent could leave.
